How do I sign up for the goDMV Commuter Competition?

If you are commuting into the DC metro area (shaded area on this map), you are automatically entered into the goDMV Commuter Competition. Follow the steps below to make sure you are ready to log trips and earn points:

  • First, make sure you have downloaded the CommuterCash app – this allows you to log the maximum number of trips per day, and gives you the opportunity to earn even more points in your personal rewards balance. (Get the app: Apple/iOS  |  Android)
  • Create your Commuter Connections account:
    • If your employer has a specific URL or QR code for the goDMV Commuter Competition, use that to complete your account setup.
    • If your employer does not have a team in the competition, tap the Create Account button to get started. If you already have a Commuter Connections account, log in to the CommuterCash app with your existing username and password*.
  • Complete the steps to set up your new account or update your existing account if your employer has changed.
  • Log in to the app and start logging your trips! If you need to log trips in the online calendar, use your same username and password.

*Not sure if you already have a Commuter Connections account, or you have an account but can’t login? Contact us at [email protected] or call 1-800-745-RIDE (7433) for assistance.

How do I log trips?

You have two options for logging trips for the goDMV Commuter Competition: using the CommuterCash app (preferred) and the Commuter Connections online calendar commute log.

Visit our Guide to Earning Points for quick overview of the differences and benefits of each option.

To log a trip in the CommuterCash app:

  • Open the app (you may need to log in) and select Log Trip.
  • Select your trip mode and destination, then tap the Start Trip button.
  • You’re on your way! The app should end the trip automatically when you reach your destination, but in case it doesn’t, select the End Trip button to stop tracking.

To log a trip in the online Commute Log calendar:

  • Tap the “Forgot to Log a Trip?” button under the leaderboard in the CommuterCash app.
  • Log into the Commuter Connections site with your same username and password.
  • Select Commute Log – the first time you do this, you’ll be prompted to set up a typical commute profile.
  • Select the calendar day and log your trips – you can log up to two trips per day with this option.

How many trips can I log each day?

Six sustainable (non-drive alone) trips per day count towards your leaderboard totals – weekdays and weekends, commute or non-commute trips!

Trips logged online or with the CommuterCash app add one point each to your Commuter Leaderboard (and Employer Leaderboard if applicable) to give you a maximum potential of six points per day.

Using the CommuterCash app also offers you the opportunity to earn up to 50 points per qualified weekday commute trip (maximum 100 points per day) to your personal CommuterCash app rewards points balance. Commute trips must meet the eligibility criteria (using the app with location setting enabled, trip occurs during AM or PM peak commute time, and is a commute trip TO/FROM work).

Visit our Guide to Earning Points for quick overview of the differences and benefits of each option.

What type of trips count for goDMV?

Commute and non-commute trips count towards your six trip per-day limit, as long as they are “sustainable” trips:

  • walk
  • bike/scooter
  • transit
  • carpool
  • vanpool
  • telework

Drive alone trips do not contribute points to the goDMV Commuter Competition.

How do I log a telework commute?

Telework trips can only be logged using the Commuter Connections online commute log calendar:

  • In the CommuterCash app, click the “Forgot to Log a Trip?” button, or head straight to commuterconnections.org and log in.
  • Click Commute Log from the menu.
  • The first time you do this, you’ll set up a typical commute profile, then you can select the calendar days to add your telework trips.

Please note: trips logged in the online calendar will not appear in your CommuterCash app Trip History screen, and they do not contribute points towards your personal CommuterCash rewards balance. They will add points to your goDMV leaderboard totals and keep you eligible for most of the monthly bonuses and raffle prizes.

What if I forgot to log a trip?

No problem! If you forgot or weren’t able to log a trip with the CommuterCash app, follow the instructions for using the online calendar to log those missed trips.

  • In the CommuterCash app, click the “Forgot to Log a Trip?” button and log in to your Commuter Connections account.
  • Click Commute Log from the menu (the first time you do this, you’ll set up a typical commute profile).
  • Select the calendar days to add your missed trips. You can backlog missed trips up to 10 days from today.

How do I see the leaderboard rankings?

When you are logged into the CommuterCash app, tap the CommuterCash logo at the top of the screen or the goDMV Leaderboards link from the main menu.

You will see the Commuter Leaderboard (all participants are listed anonymously), and if you are on a participating employer team, you’ll also see the Employer Leaderboard.

How will I know if I won the monthly bonus points or prize raffle?

We’ll notify all recipients of the monthly bonus CommuterCash points and raffle prize drawings by email, so be on the lookout around the first week of each new month of the competition to see if you’ve won!

Recipients of bonus CommuterCash points will also receive badges in the app and see the bonus points added to the Rewards balance.

Where can I learn more about the CommuterCash app?

Visit our commutercash.org webpage to get more details about our new CommuterCash app!

CommuterCash will remain available to commuters across the region and throughout Maryland after the goDMV Commuter Competition ends, offering you continued opportunities to keep earning rewards for logging your sustainable commute trips to work!
